Whale Watching in Guadeloupe: Dolphin and Whale Watching Tour from Deshaies
Departing from Deshaies, Anava invites you to search for the cetaceans that inhabit Guadeloupe’s waters — dolphins, sperm whales, humpback whales and pilot whales. Wild, free and unpredictable. Sightings can never be guaranteed. That is precisely what makes each encounter so special.
Step aboard Planète Bleue, our 14-metre motor catamaran, for a morning dedicated to discovering the cetaceans that frequent Guadeloupe’s waters.
Your experience begins at Deshaies harbour, where the crew welcomes you with coffee or tea. After an introduction to the excursion and a safety briefing, Planète Bleue leaves the harbour and heads out to sea.
The search then begins. Here, nature sets the agenda: there is no fixed itinerary and no scheduled encounter. You too take part in the search for whales, dolphins and other cetaceans, scanning the horizon alongside the crew and our naturalist guide. A spout, a fin or an unusual movement at the surface may be the first sign of their presence.
When conditions allow, a hydrophone is lowered beneath the surface. Listen to what is happening below the boat and discover the sounds of cetaceans and the ocean from a different perspective.
If an encounter takes place, we approach with respect for the animals and their environment. The cetaceans we observe are entirely wild and free to move as they please, so sightings can never be guaranteed. This element of unpredictability is an integral part of the experience.
Throughout the trip, our naturalist guide shares their knowledge and helps you understand what you see. You will learn about the different species, their behaviour and way of life, as well as Guadeloupe’s rich marine biodiversity. These conversations also offer a deeper understanding of local ecosystems and the challenges involved in protecting them.
After exploring the open sea, enjoy a relaxed cruise back to Deshaies and share your impressions over fruit juice served on the return journey.
There is no need to spend the whole excursion behind your phone: the crew films the sightings during the trip. Afterwards, you can revisit these encounters and relive the experience through the video made available by ANAVA.
A Whale Watching excursion with ANAVA is, above all, about searching for cetaceans, learning to observe them, listening to the ocean and experiencing each encounter as nature chooses to offer it.
